May Fleamarket!26th May 2019

Just under an hour to go until the start of our first flea market of the year. Not the lovely sunny weather that I had hoped for, but lots of sunny smiles from the stallholders who are almost all set up. I love our flea markets as they remind me of village fetes, or Brocantes and Vide Grenier that we have visited when on holiday.

Wenlock Books, May Brocante this Sunday, Out of the Hills Exhibition, Poetry in the Barn25th May 2019

As some of you may also have heard Anna Dreda announced this week that after three decades of bookselling in Much Wenlock she will be closing Wenlock Books at the end of June. The decision comes about partly as a result of a decision by the landlord to sell the property, but Anna has also been thinking for some time what she wants to do with the next stage of her life.

Flea Market next Sunday, Poetry breakfast, Half term soon, local books18th May 2019

I can't believe that we are now just over a week away from the May Brocante. This year's event has been moved from the Monday to the Sunday, so don't turn up a day late having missed all the fun! Over 30 stalls are booked with the usual great combination of bric-a-brac, collectibles, antiques etc. There is still room for a few more so call and book one of the last spots if you would like to be a stallholder.

A week of book buying and book processing11th May 2019

After a busy bank holiday weekend we started the week by having the sad task of breaking down the wonderful 'Flower Garden' exhibition. Many thanks to Ruth, Lottie, Tony and Sabina for producing such a wonderful show.  The space looks very empty at the moment, but  not for long because we are only a couple of weeks from the May Brocante - this year on Sunday the 26th of May - and after that the following weekend marks the start of our next exhibition - 'Out of the Hills 2019'.

More books, upcoming events27th April 2019

After a bit of a break from full-scale book buying I am off  to London next week to pick up another 25  boxes of books - art and general subjects. The phone has also been going non-stop so no doubt there will be numerous house visits over the next few weeks. Fortunately we have been selling lots of books recently, so as sometimes happens the stock is turning over even faster than usual.

It Never Entered My Mind14th April 2019

Two weeks ago we got in some Jazz CD's into the shop and yesterday I borrowed one to put in the car CD player ( I am trying to avoid Radio 4 at the moment for reasons that do not need explanation). The CD was the Miles Davies Quintet album "Workin' ", one of four realised on the New York Prestige label that were based on two legendary sessions at the Van Gelder Studio.

Website, 'The Flower Garden', Easter Garden Event, lots and lots of books6th April 2019

Last week was kind of crazy with lots of things going on at the same time and a return to full-on winter weather. We spent Thursday dodging the snow showers and heading out to the Visual Works to look through their designs for our new website. I am so impressed with the work that they have done and can't wait for our new website to go live next month. A beautiful new design, lots of new features, a simplified book search facility, a gallery feature for our exhibitions and much much more. A major step forward for Aardvark and long overdue.

Even more art books, planning for Easter30th March 2019

I am taking a breather from processing art books we bought at the London Bookfair, and instead am working through a wonderful library of mostly art and graphics titles. Some unusual books on Hockney, David Jones and Lucien Freud amongst others, as well as a good selection of classic and contemporary fiction.

Spring Music Event, Website, Graham Arnold, 'The Flower Garden'24th March 2019

Many thanks to Gareth Rees-Roberts for coming back to Aardvark to play a programme of Argentine guitar music yesterday. Thanks also to the record numbers who came and to the hard working Aardvark team ( this was Jenny and Laura's first Aardvark event). My apologies to any-one who had to wait to be served ( at times the queues were long) and to any-one who came and was unable to find a seat. There are further opportunities to hear music at Aardvark on the 20th of April, the 13th of July and the 26th of August. On the 20th of April the Trevor Davies trio will incorporate a fantastic young singer - more details on the website.
